Our Story

Hello, I’m Amy, founder of The Home School Project. An alternative education provider that is rooted in a deep belief in the transformative power of education. My mission is to create an environment where learning is a joyful adventure, igniting curiosity and fostering a lifelong love for education.

The Home School Project is built on the principles of student agency, creativity, and holistic development, aiming to nurture independent thinkers who are equipped to thrive in an ever-evolving world. Here, education transcends traditional boundaries, focusing on essential skills that empower children to navigate their own paths with confidence and resilience.

With over a decade of experience in both primary and secondary education, I have witnessed first-hand the impact of a rigid, exam-focused system on students’ engagement and well-being. I’ve taught students preparing for their SATs and GCSEs and provided A-level tutoring, and seen the impact this can have on wellbeing, motivation and creativity. In 2020, I left education in the UK and moved, with my family, to France. From there, I continued my career through the world of online education.

My new path felt exciting, different; like I was part of a change, part of the future for education. I loved that I could still engage with my students as meaningfully as I did in a physical classroom and use new tools and innovative technology to bring education to life. However, as more online schools became DfE and Ofsted accredited, I noticed a troubling shift towards rigidity in timetabling and stricter subject adherence, moving away from the principles that originally inspired me. I searched for something better, but as I delved deeper into traditional teaching methods, I became increasingly disheartened by the industry’s emphasis on standardised testing and knowledge memorisation. This approach often stifled creativity and left many students feeling disconnected from their education. It was this realisation that inspired me to establish The Home School Project—a sanctuary where students are not just recipients of information but active participants in their learning journeys.

I knew I needed a new approach to the curriculum and painstakingly set out to develop my own. One that didn't centre on memorising facts and striving for one end goal but instead prioritised skills and looked at the holistic journey of learning to prepare pupils for the future. So, I created a skills-based curriculum that prioritised critical life skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity over rote knowledge. At The Home School Project, these skills are at the heart of everything we do, focusing on the process of learning rather than the end result. The Home School Project continually strives to be an inclusive, nurturing environment where children can explore their interests, develop essential life skills, and rediscover the joy of learning.

At The Home School Project, we believe that every child is unique, and our mission is to ensure that they feel valued, inspired, and equipped to embrace their future with enthusiasm and confidence.
