Course Overview
Take a fascinating journey inside the human body! In this six-week project, pupils will discover how food fuels the body, how different systems work together to keep us alive, and how lifestyle choices affect our health. They’ll even have the opportunity to plant and grow their own seeds at home, following the journey from soil to plate as part of their learning. This project links science, maths, English, and cooking/DT to make health and biology practical and engaging. Pupils will carry out fun experiments, record data, design healthy meals, and create their own exercise plans. The project ends with children stepping into the role of doctors, solving a “mystery patient” case and presenting a lifestyle plan — complete with a recipe they’ve designed themselves. Highlights include: 🌱 Planting seeds and learning about where food comes from 🧠 Exploring the digestive system, heart, lungs, muscles, and brain 📊 Tracking pulse rates and presenting results in charts and graphs 🥗 Designing balanced meals and cooking a nutritious recipe 🏃 Creating and testing a personal exercise plan 🩺 Diagnosing a “mystery patient” using everything they’ve learned Body Detectives equips children with practical knowledge about health, wellbeing, and how to look after the most amazing machine they’ll ever own — their own body.
